Packing a Hospital Bag as a Surrogate

Packing-a-Hospital-Bag-as-a-Surrogate

As a surrogate mother, you’ve been preparing for this day since the very beginning of the process. To ensure you’re as ready as you can be to deliver a healthy and happy baby for your intended parents, it’s a great idea to pack a bag that contains a few different essential items to make your delivery and recovery as comfortable as possible.

Here are a few essential items to include in your hospital bag as you prepare for your due date.

Bathrobe

When you’re planning on delivering a surrogate baby, it can be helpful to have a bathrobe with you when arriving at the hospital. Having a robe with you can allow you to feel more at ease when bathing or during the delivery. The bathrobe should have loose or short sleeves to ensure that your blood pressure can be checked. You can also bring a pair of slippers to avoid walking around barefoot or in your socks in the hospital room.

A change of clothes may also be packed for when you’re heading home after having the baby.

Toiletries

You should also pack essential toiletries that you use each day, which may include lip balm, a toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, a hair dryer, shampoo, lotion, and deodorant. You can also bring makeup if you wear it.

Snacks

Although you’ll be provided a meal at the hospital after delivering the Intended Parent’s baby, you may want to have a few snacks on hand to stay energized. Consider packing granola, nuts, fruit, and protein bars as you regain your strength.

Important Documents

Upon arrival, you’ll be required to provide your hospital registration forms and ID to check in once you begin going into labor at the hospital. Your health insurance information and your birth plan should also be packed. The Intended Parents will also have registered for the baby’s care, so you won’t have to worry about handling any information for them. The Pre Birth Order will also have been sent over for them, so their names will be right on the birth certificate in most cases.

Entertainment

When you’re in the process of delivering a baby, you may have a lot of downtime in the hospital. You can pack entertainment to pass the time by bringing along a few books, an iPad, or your smartphone. Your smartphone can also be used to download helpful apps that can assist you during the delivery process, such as a white noise or a contraction timer app.

By packing a hospital bag that has the necessities when being a surrogate, you can feel ready for the delivery and have what you need available while you’re away from home. With your own personal essentials, you’ll feel more relaxed, and you can have a smooth experience.

Being a surrogate is an incredible experience. If you’re ready to embark on your journey to helping another individual or couple grow their family, contact us for more details today!
