Why Surrogacy is Important

When people hear about surrogacy they often have several questions. How does it work? Why do people do it? There are many reasons why people choose to use surrogacy and benefit from it. This blog will look at several different reasons why surrogacy is important.

What Is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is when a women agrees to carry another couple or individuals baby for them from pregnancy to birth. The most common form of surrogacy is gestational surrogacy which is when the egg and the sperm come from the intended parents or donors. This means that the surrogate shares no genetic connection to the child.

Starting a Family

Many people dream of the day when they will have children and start a family. Unfortunately, these plans do not work out for everyone. Some women struggle with infertility, people are faced with genetic diseases, or are members of the LGBTQ+ community and therefore cannot have children with their partner. This is where surrogacy comes in. Surrogacy allows everyone, no matter what their situation is, to have children of their own.

Gestational Surrogacy

One of the most intriguing parts of gestational surrogacy is that it can be used to allow both intended parents to have a biological connection to the child. Since the surrogate is receiving the embryo this means that the sperm and egg have come from the intended parents. Even though the surrogate will be carrying the child throughout the pregnancy, she will not have any biological connection to the child.

Connections

Surrogacy creates bonds that cannot be broken. The intended parents and the surrogate often create a connection that is unlike many other connections that people experience in their lifetime. Since the surrogate is transforming the life of the intended parents forever, they remain grateful to them. The surrogate also experiences giving another family the chance to have their own children, which is life altering in itself.
